TG4: Súil Eile
Another eye!
A chara,
Do you watch TG4, the Irish language television station?
I am always encouraging my students to watch it. It is one of the best, and easiest, ways to get some more Irish into your day!
Agus is mór an spórt é chomh maith!
And it's enjoyable too!
TG4 has been broadcasting from the Connemara Gaeltacht (Irish speaking area) since 1996.
The logo of the station is 'súil eile' (another eye, i.e. another viewpoint) and the content on TG4 is a little different to that of other TV stations.
Here are a few tips for getting the most out of TG4:
1. Use the player
Watch whatever you like whenever you like; switch the subtitles on or off; and pause and rewatch parts of programmes.
2. Sign up for the newsletter
Sign up for the newsletter and receive an email every month letting you know what's coming up on TG4. If you haven't been watching TG4 in a while, then getting the newsletter will give you a nudge in the right direction.
3. Find a programme that you enjoy
Here are a few suggestions from my students, but keep looking until you find a programme that you really like (it won't be too hard!)
- Bailte
- Slí na mBeaglaíoch (great if you want to listen to some ceol)
- Ros na Rún (a soap opera)
- Rásaí na Gaillimhe (a very funny comedy series set during the Galway races)
- Doineann (this is a full length film, set on an offshore island during a wild storm. Get the popcorn out!)
- Timpeall na Tíre
To find any of these programmes just use the search box at the top of the player. (You can see below that the search is for a programme called 'Comhrá').

Children's programmes are another great way to learn some Irish - but more about those tomorrow.
Sin é don uair seo!
That's it for now!
